(The world turns hazy as you go into shock)
(You feel like something inside your head has snapped. All you can think to do is leave the room to get away)
?: HEY!(Who was that? You look around but the hallway is empty)
?: THIS IS NOT THE TIME FOR CRYING, YOU NEED TO MOVE!
(The voice sounds like it’s coming from above you)
(Oh!)Cole: Are you, um, the camera?
?: YOU CAN CALL ME, EVE. I VOLUNTEERED FOR THE ERTH PROGRAM, JUST LIKE YOU DID.
Cole: That’s a nice name. I’m Cole.
EVE: I KNOW.
EVE: BUT THANK YOU, I GUESS.
EVE: ANYWAY, BACK ON TOPIC. IT IS CRUCIAL THAT YOU MAKE YOUR WAY TO THE PLANET’S SURFACE AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE. I DON’T THINK I NEED TO TELL YOU THAT IT’S NO LONGER SAFE DOWN HERE.
Cole: Yeah, I’m not gonna argue there. Isn’t the surface uninhabitable though?
EVE: NOT FOR YOU.
Cole: What does that mean?
EVE: IT MEANS THE EXPERIMENT YOU VOLUNTEERED FOR WAS SUCCESSFUL, FOR THE MOST-PART.
Cole: Oh, right, they did stuff to my body didn’t they. I guess that explains the eye, and my memories being all fuzzy.
EVE: ACTUALLY THAT WAS A MISTAKE, THEY DAMAGED THE ORIGINAL EYE DURING SURGERY, AND DIDN’T HAVE TIME TO FULLY RECONSTRUCT IT. THE MEMORY ISSUES WERE EXPECTED, AND SHOULD FADE WITH TIME THOUGH.
Cole: Oh shit! They stabbed my eye out?!
Cole: Uh, so, where are you? Escaping together would be safer wouldn't it?
EVE: NOT POSSIBLE
Cole: How come? Are you already outside?
EVE: NO, I WILL BE STAYING HERE.
Cole: Wait what?! Are you going to be okay?!
EVE: CALM DOWN, I WON’T BE “okay” BUT I’VE MADE PEACE WITH IT.
EVE: BESIDES, THERE ARE OTHERS DOWN HERE THAT NEED MY INSTRUCTION. DO YOU REMEMBER THE WAY OUT?
Cole: A little? This is floor -5, right?
EVE: IT IS. NOW I MUST LEAVE YOU FOR A WHILE, I NEED TO TEND TO SOMETHING, AND YOU SEEM FAIRY CAPABLE OF NOT GETTING YOURSELF INTO SHIT. UNLIKE OTHERS I’VE DEALT AND AM DEALING WITH.
Cole: What do I do about the thing prowling the halls?
EVE: FIND SOMETHING TO ARM YOURSELF WITH AND LAY LOW. FOR NOW THAT SHOULD BE ENOUGH.
Cole: Okay, I’ll look around for something I guess.
EVE: GOOD, NOW I REALLY MUST GO. STAY SAFE COLE.
Cole: You too, Eve…
(Well she seemed nice.)
(Okay maybe not “nice” but really you’re just relieved to hear another human(?) voice. You were beginning to think you were the only person left. What a nightmare that would’ve been.)
(Hmmm, a lot of unopened boxes in this room. A recent ration delivery maybe?)
